Upcoming Events

Students were delighted to learn that all of the grade five and grade four/five classes will be going to the Oak Bay Recreation Centre Friday morning for a fun skating session! We will walk to and from the Centre, leaving at 9:45 am and returning at 12:00 pm.  The entrance fee for each student is $3.00.  Skate rental is free.  All children MUST have a helmet.  They will not be allowed on the ice without one.

We need at least 2 adult supervisors to help our class out!  If you can walk with with the class (to and/or fro) AND are able to skate with us, please email Mr T. (A link to Mr T’s email is on the right sidebar of this blog).  This is legal requirement in order for our class to participate in this experience.  Thank you!

Permission forms for this field trip were handed out on Friday.  They need to be returned to the school before a student can participate.  If a student does not have a form, one can be picked up at the office during the week (The office will be open at the usual times from Monday to Friday).

Please note: No child at EMJS will be denied access to this field trip due to an inability to pay.  Please contact the school principal if finances are an issue and a solution will be worked out.  Of course, your privacy will be respected.

Students need to arrive tomorrow NO EARLIER than 8:15. The bus will leave at 8:30am.
We anticipate coming back to EMJS around 4:00, but that is only an estimated arrival time.

Fun, here we come!

Thank you to the 1/3 of the class who have contributed to this PAC sponsored school fund raising effort.

A reminder to everyone that the deadline for donations is fast approaching – It’s Friday!

We’re looking for things that would loosely fit our lottery basket theme “MOVIE NIGHT”!!

Movie Night!

Is there a parent (or parents) from our class who can help to “direct” this fun activity?  At the moment no one has stepped forward to be a class rep – so it would be great if we had some help with this one project – to “produce” a”blockbuster” basket!  It has to be completed and handed in to the PAC two weeks from Monday – so it’s not a long term committment.

Please email or drop off a note with your child if you’re interested in being a “star” for our class.  Thanks for “auditioning” this request.  (OK, that’s “The End” of the bad puns – for now!)

We’re hoping that all students in the class will participate in the school’s performance of “The Aristocats” on Thursday night this week.  Should be tons of fun, as every student not on stage has practiced and rehearsed to be in the choir (which is where the cat song is sung BTW).

Students should come to my classroom dressed all in one colour (black, brown, white) at 6:00 on Thursday night to prepare for the performance (Cast members go to the music room).

A tip of the hat to all the parent volunteers coming to help that night!

Or rather, we will visit them for I understand they will be in attendance at the concert ;-) Our next field trip is the free concert “Mozart & Hayden Festival: Best of Friends”, on Thursday, March 5.

Thanks very much to all of the parents who are driving! A passenger list has been arranged for your car. (If you volunteered, ask your son or daughter about what’s been arranged.)

Drivers, please come to the classroom at 8:45 am Thursday. We need to get to the Alix Goolden Performance Hall by about 9:15 to be seated. (Parking BTW will be on the street.) Driving parents are invited to attend this free performance, if they wish!

The concert ends by 10:15, so we should be back at the school by about 10:45.

We are skating at the Oak Bay Recreation Center on the afternoon of Thursday, Feb 12.

To find out more, ask your son or daughter for the handout on Monday!

Tuesday afternoon we will have a real treat!  A professional artist will be in the house to share what it’s like to be an artist.  Then, she will work with the class to create original prints.  Should be something fun to talk about at the diner table!
